Abstract

This article aims to study the development of innovative art history teaching guidelines, using visual tools to enhance knowledge transfer among art education students. Art education is an interdisciplinary field that integrates knowledge from both the arts and sciences. As such, continuous development is required to adapt to global changes in learning processes, techniques, materials, and tools in order to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. The study employs in-depth interviews with key informants, including experts in Western art history instruction and innovative teaching methodologies, using expert interview forms. In addition, the questionnaires are administered to art education students to assess their needs in instructional formats. The research also involves a review of relevant documents and research to analyze and develop innovative guidelines.

This study proposes the implementation of visual tools such as mind maps, timelines, semiotics, visual map, Mind mapping, videos, and infographics, in teaching to enhance effective knowledge transfer from educators to learners. By using visual symbols as substitutes for text or language, these tools help overcome challenges in perception and interpretation, especially for students who struggle with text-based content. Learning through visual tools is the development of visual skills, which can be further enhanced by integrating experiences with other sensory inputs. These tools also support the effective communication of information and concepts, aiding students in understanding complex data and building their learning competencies. Ultimately, the use of visual tools promotes systematic and profound knowledge transfer between teachers and students, which serves as an essential foundation for enhancing the quality of education in this era.
