Potential of Historical Tourism Site from the Perspective of Local People: A Case Study of Red Tank Historical Park

Abstract

This research aims to 1) study knowledge and understanding about the history of “Red Tank” of local people, 2) study the tourism marketing mix factors of Red Tank Historical Park from the perspective of local people, 3) study the potential of Red Tank Historical Park from the perspective of local people, and 4) study the factors affecting the potential of Red Tank Historical Park from the perspective of local people. The sample comprised some 397 people living in Srinakarin District, Phatthalung Province. The research instrument was a questionnaire, which was then analyzed according to maximum, minimum, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that 1) the overall knowledge and understanding about the history of “Red Tank” of local people was at a moderate level, 2) the overall tourism marketing mix factors of Red Tank Historical Park from the perspective of local people was at a high level, 3) the overall potential of Red Tank Historical Park from the perspective of local people was at a high level, and 4) the factors most affecting the potential of Red Tank Historical Park from the perspective of local people including, sorted from high to low, tourism products or services, touristic place, knowledge and understanding about the history of “Red Tank”, age, length of stay in the area, and tourism physical evidence. Altogether, the factors considered explain 69.8% of the variance in the potential of Red Tank Historical Park.
