Organization of Learning Activities about “Solid Waste Management” for Enhancing Senior Elementary Students’ Knowledge, Awareness, and Engagement in Municipal Solid Waste Management: A Case of Wat Changron School, Ratburana District, Bangkok

Abstract
The objectives of this research were to design and evaluate the effectiveness of a learning activities plan for senior elementary students’ learning about solid waste management, and to investigate outcomes of participation in learning activities which enhanced levels of knowledge, awareness, and participation in solid waste management. The sample group was 70 senior elementary students studying in Wat Changron School, Ratburana district, Bangkok. The tools for data collection were knowledge achievement test, the test for measurement of awareness of solid waste management, and the test for measurement of participation in solid waste management. The reliability values of those tests were between .80 and .87. For knowledge achievement test, the difficulty indices were between .30 and .70, and the discrimination indices were between .28 and .71. The designed learning activities which included contents of solid waste management and application of game and Multimedia as learning tools were organized for 10 hours. Before and after the organization of all learning activities, students’ knowledge, awareness of, and participation in solid waste management were measured. Statistical tests such as Independent-Samples t-test, Paired-Samples t-test and One-Way ANOVA were performed. The results revealed that 1) students’ knowledge of solid waste management, awareness of, and participation in solid waste management reported after participating in the learning activities were significantly higher than those reported before participating in the learning activities 2) Before participating in the learning activities, female students had a significant higher knowledge than male students, but after participating in the learning activities, there was no a significant difference. Moreover, the result revealed that after participating in the learning activities, students with different educational levels had significant difference in knowledge and awareness of solid waste management.
