Abstract

This research aimed to: (1) examine the effectiveness index of the lesson plans based on CASEL’s strategies, and (2) compare preschoolers' relationship skills before and after the experiment. The participants were 20 preschoolers aged 4–5 years, selected through cluster random sampling. The experiment was conducted over six consecutive weeks, four days per week, with 45-minute sessions, totaling 24 lesson plans. The learning experience was designed using CASEL’s strategies: (1) small-group cooperative learning, (2) positive relationship building, and (3) conflict management and resolution. The implementation procedures consisted of (1) preparation, (2) cooperative learning, and (3) consolidation of learning. The data collection instrument was a performance rubric for assessing preschoolers' relationship skills. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, effectiveness index, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The findings revealed that (1) the effectiveness index of the lesson plans was 0.8179, indicating that the children achieved 81.79% of the maximum possible gain in relationship skills, and (2) the preschoolers’ post-experimental scores were significantly higher than pre-experimental scores at the .05 level. These results indicate that CASEL’s strategies can effectively enhance preschoolers’ relationship skills.
