Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the Serenade in D minor (Finale) to provide guidelines for conducting. The research methodology utilized techniques for deconstructing the song's structure from micro-level components, such as the main melody, to macro-level components, including musical form, harmony, and structure. Strategies for conducting and ensemble adjusting were proposed, supplemented by a thorough analysis of the musical content. The research tools included musical scores and a music analysis form. The data analysis method applied inductive qualitative data analysis techniques, considering music theory frameworks combined with interpretive analysis techniques for conducting.

The research findings revealed that the Serenade in D minor (Finale) is primarily in a 2/4 time signature, characterized by a fast and lively rhythm similar to a Polka dance. The main melody is predominantly played by woodwind instruments, with a recommendation for the use of 12 musical instruments in a band. the analysis and guidelines for conducting consisted of 4 key points: 1) Main melody, 2) Musical Form and structure, 3) Harmonization, and 4) Instruments used in the piece. Furthermore, it provides suggestions and solutions to common problems related to controlling the position and posture of the conductor, cueing, and the communication of meaning.
