Academic Administration of the Middle-sized Schools under Chiang Mai Primary Educational Service Area Office 1

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study conditions and problems concerning the academic administration, and 2) to propose guidelines in practice concerning the academic administration of the middle-sized schools under Chiang Mai Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. Population of this study were teachers and experts, for a total of 61 respondents.  Instruments used to collect data were a rating scale questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and summarized as the composition; data from the semi-structured interview were analyzed by descriptive analysis.The research results showed as follows:        

1. Regarding the problems concerning the academic administration of the middle-sized schools under Chiang Mai Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 were overall and 5 aspects at a high level. The most problem in the aspect of instructional management, the average was at a high level, followed by the aspect of supervision, the average was at a high level, and the least problem in the educational quality development, the average was at a high level.

                2. Regarding the guidelines in practice concerning the academic administration of the middle-sized schools under Chiang Mai Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, it was found that in terms of the school curriculum, most of the school administrators should organize a workshop in the remedial teaching for the impaired learners, and to build the knowledge and understanding concerning the school curriculum; in terms of the instructional management and learning evaluation, the school administrators should set up courses to train  teachers for how to analyze and synthesize of the correct test; in terms of the supervision, the school administrators should make the school policy to appoint the operational committee by using the of participatory principles and to summarize the supervision with the sincerity, using the professional learning community (PLC) as a tool to develop academic work; in terms of the educational quality development, the school administrators should organize workshops focusing on teachers’ participation by using the SWOT Analysis technique, the data should be used to develop, improve and follow- up the teachers' development seriously, the students should be honored to do good deeds and should add the desired characteristics in teaching and learning management.
