Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) develop lesson plans based on Science Technology and Society (STS) approach in the module of the balance of life for Mathayomsuksa 4 students to meet the efficiency criteria of 80/80. 2) compare the science learning achievement in the module of the balance of life before and after using the STS approach of Matthayomsuksa 4 students. 3) compare problem-solving before and after using the STS approach of Mathayomsuksa 4 students. The samples were 18 of Mathayomsuksa 4/3 students of Kanchanapisek Wittayalai Chaiyaphum School, Mueang district, Chaiyaphum province employed by using a simple Cluster Sampling technique. The instruments were 1) lesson plans based on the science technology and society; 2) learning achievement test; and 3) a test to measure science problem solving ability. Statistics used were mean, average standard deviation and t-test Dependent Sample (t-test Dependent Sample).

The results indicated that

  1. The lesson plans based on Science Technology and Society (STS) approach in the module of the balance of life Has the efficiency of (E1 / E2) as much as 83.21/82.50, higher than the standard of 80/80.
  2. the post-learning learning achievement in the module of the balance of life of Matthayomsuksa 4 students learned under the Science Technology and Society learning approach was higher than their pre-learning counterpart achievement at the .05 level of significance.
  3. the post-learning problem solving ability of the students learning under the Science Technology and Society learning approach was higher than their pre-learning counterpart ability at the .05 level of significance.
