ACTION RESEARCH: STUDENT DEVELOPMENT FOR ACTIVITIES PLANNING DESIGN OF STEM EDUCATION WITH ACTIVE LEARNING

Abstract

This research aimed to develop students to design STEM education activities plan with there active learning activities which were collaboration, cognitive and behavioral. The sample were 34 Computer Education major students of Faculty of Education, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, who have been taught in the subject of COM 4102 : Computer Learning Management for Basic Education in the 2nd semester of academic year 2016. Research instruments were active learning activities model activity plan evaluation form of student activities classroom behavior observation, “realization” training and development activity, behavioral development activity. It was qualitative research. The data was analyzed by content analysis, and presented its result and concluded by descriptive narration.


The result of research indicated that process of planning activities for STEM education with active learning were as follow: 1) active learning environment, occurred by activity–based learning and group process strategy, and teacher’s role in facilitating learning management, 2) developed their realizations on STEM education and analytical thinking for solving problems according to the study, and 3) adjusted their behaviors to an activity plan design for STEM education and created full set of STEM education activities for the Career and Technology department in a primary and secondary school.


The fidings of this study were that students carried out an activity by themselves, they also gained more knowledge from experience and faced with problems as well, for example, they spent more than 9 times in the class, and the learning medias on STEM education, which developed by The institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST) were not clear enough. They still confused that what was an engineering design in the integrated STEM education concept mapping? Based on this students development, as a result, students could designed to plan activities for STEM education, which appropriate for the context of the school and budget.
