CABARET IN CHIANG MAI

Abstract
The objective of this research wese to study performance’s composition and styles, and role of cabaret’s show in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This study was qualitative research. Every cabaret’s show in Chiang Mai had been surveyed. Data were collected through observation and interview. Related documents and information were explored as well.
The results of this study showed that the cabarets’ show in Chiang Mai had three main styles such as theatre style, restaurant and bar style, and environmental style. Firstly, theatre style had full theatrical compositions, i.e., box office, proscenium stage, theatre scenes, light and sound, and theatre props. The shows were varieties and took many dancers. Secondary, the cabaret in restaurant and bar style was smaller than in theatre style and the stage was fixed, the audiences would enjoy the show during the dinner. There were 1-5 dancers for a show and the shows emphasized on dance rhythm (fast and fun). Lastly, the environmental style was found in Chiang Mai’s night safari. The shows were performed on empty field or open stage surrounding with trees.
The cabaret shows had five main compositions such as creative concept of the show, dancers, costumes, stage scenes, and dance style. Additionally, the cabarets were four significant values for Chiang Mai’s society such as the cultural value, tourism value, business value, and social value.
