The Study of Errors and Analyzing the Causes of the Errors in Using Thai Consonants in Thai Language Writing of Chinese Students from Yuxi Normal University Studying at Chiangrai Rajabhat University

Abstract
This research, " the study of errors and analyzing the causes of the errors in using Thai consonants in Thai language writing of Chinese students from Yuxi Normal University studying at Chiangrai Rajabhat University” had purposes to study the writing errors and analyze the writing errors of Chinese students, majoring in Thai Language and Culture. Researcher studied the causes of defects, from five theses of 40 Chinese students who enrolled the ZO614112, Term Paper, semester 1 of academic year 2017.
Findings showed that Chinese students from Yuxi Normal University studying in Chiang Rai Rajabhat University had the writing errors in total of 23 characteristics which could be grouped into 2 categories: 1. errors in writing the first consonant, consonant, 2. errors in writing the final consonants. The cause of defects in writing Thai was due to: 1. Chinese students studied Thai as second foreign language, and were not familiar with Thai characters which resulted in writing letters alternation, 2. Chinese language didn’t have the final consonant / n /, so that Chinese students couldn’t distinguish between the spelling sound / d / and / n /, 3. Chinese students misunderstood that the phonemes / l / and / r / were the same consonant sound, 4. Chinese students interpreted the sounds they heard with the consonants according to the direct pronunciation of the spelling section, 5. Chinese language didn’t have consonants, so they transcribed the wrong sound when writing diphthongs.
