A Comparative Study of the Pronunciation Between Chinese and Korean Labial Consonants

Abstract

This study aims to compare the pronunciation between Chinese and Korean labial consonants, with researchers comparing Middle Ancient Chinese (Sui-Song Dynasty) and Korean labial consonant sounds. Then compared to the pronunciation of ancient Chinese, so that those who study Chinese and Korean can understand the pronunciation of both languages more clearly. Research resources and Methodology by compare vocabularies in Textbook Seoul National University Korean Language 1A-6B and Guangyun by making a comparison table for declaring the same and the different points. Research results showed that 1. Consonants sound b /p/ matched the ancient Chinese characters among 幫 /p/ 並 /b/ 滂 /p‘/ pronounced in accordance with the pronunciation of Korean consonants ㅂ /p/, but some consonants sound when entering in Korean phonetic system sound pronounced as ㅍ /p‘/ because it is influenced by the phonetic components of Chinese characters. 2. Consonants p /p‘/ matched the ancient Chinese characters among 滂 /p‘/ 並 /b/ pronounced in accordance with the pronunciation of Korean consonants ㅍ /p‘/, but some consonants sound when entering in Korean phonetic system sound pronounced as ㅂ /p/ because it is influenced by the phonetic components of Chinese characters. 3. Consonants m /m/ completely matched with the ancient Chinese characters 明 /m/. and 4. Consonants f /f/ matched the ancient Chinese characters among 非 /pf/ 敷 /pf‘/ 奉 /bv/, because it doesn’t have labiodental consonants in the Korean phonetic system. So the consonants f /f/ when entering in Korean phonetic system sound pronounced as ㅂ /p/ and ㅍ /p‘/.
