Enhancing English Reading Skills of ESP Students Through The Think-Pair-Share Technique via Microsoft Teams

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the English reading skills of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) students before and after using the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique via Microsoft Teams, and 2) examine the ESP students’ attitudes toward the use of TPS via Microsoft Teams for teaching English reading skills. The study sample consisted of 15 second-year environmental health students enrolled in an ESP course at a public university in Thailand. The instruments employed in this study consisted of eight lesson plans using TPS to promote English reading skills, reading tests, a questionnaire, and semi-structured interviews. The mean and standard deviation (S.D.) calculations were performed to analyze data from the pre-tests and post-tests of the English reading tests. The mean and S.D. scores and content analysis were used to investigate students' attitudes toward the use of TPS via Microsoft Teams for teaching English reading skills. This study found that students’ English reading skills improved significantly after implementing TPS via Microsoft Teams, and the students held positive attitudes toward the use of TPS via Microsoft Teams.
