The Tale Type in A. Chaiworasin’s Novels

Abstract

This article aimed to study the tale type in A. Chaiworasin's collection of 12 novels, by applying Stith Thompson's tale type theory for studying the tales. The results showed that A. Chaiworasin's novels had similar storylines and could be divided into two types. When analyzing and arranging the main events of the protagonist, it was found that the tale type in A. Chaiworasin's Novels could be divided into two types: 1. Love and solving life's problems, and 2. Love and departure. The first type, love and solving life's problems, could be further divided into 2 subtypes: fulfilled love and solving life's problems, and unfulfilled love and solving life's problems. The second type, love and departure, could be divided into 3 subtypes: love and departure to solve life's problems, love and departure to learn Lanna local culture and love, and departure to adventure.
