Chinese-Thai Translation Strategies of Diplomatic Notes

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to study the approaches for translating diplomatic notes from Chinese to Thai language and to make comparisons with the original language with 72 examples from the website of the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Qingdao, People's Republic of China, with precautions for translating diplomatic notes. This research was qualitative research. The translation theories of Newmark, Baker and Kanokporn Numtong & Siriwan Likhidcharoentham were used as research criteria. The research found that the translating diplomatic notes is moderately uncomplicated as there are some fixed structures in sentences. In addition, there are some hidden words and meanings conveying to study the perspectives of a variety of words and terms but retains its original structure and meaning. It also summarized the translation strategies into four approaches, namely literal translation, transliteration, omission and addition, and omission. It revealed that the most common translation approach was literal translation which accounts for 76.39 percent while transliteration, omission and addition, and omission accounts for 11.11 percent, 6.94 percent, 5.56 percent respectively. After exploring and analyzing, essential vocabulary words and terms are found useful in the future. Therefore, the vocabulary words and terms studied in this research are particularly essential for translating diplomatic notes.
