An Analysis of Concept and Presentation Technique in Children Literature of Bing Xin

Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is to analyse the concepts and methods used to present prose literature in junior high school Chinese curriculum text, namely "To My Little Readers," " Small Orange Light", "Commemorate the Dance," and "Admire Cherry Blossoms". The result of the research is presented into two aspects; 1) concept 2) methodologies used to present the concept. In the first aspect, the concepts are divided into; 1) The emotional and psychological aspects, the author presents concepts of love that consist of motherly love, child love, and natural love. 2) The social aspect, the author presents the social structure in the rural area, the social structure of members of the communist party, and international relations. 3) The intellectual aspect, the author presents rational and creative concepts. 4) The health aspect, the author presents a small notion of treating when sick, but health care in regards to taking preventive measures such as incorporating drinking milk in children is not presented. In the second aspect, the researcher found that the methodologies used to present the concept can be divided into: 1) Through their story structures, all four stories contain aspects of Chinese society and international relations. 2) Through characters, which is the most common method and contains only a few characters, mostly children and animals, it offers ideas about love, perseverance, problem-solving, and positivity through the conversation of the characters. 3) Through scenery, which presents the natural atmosphere and makes readers aware of the value and beauty of nature. 4) Through the author’s perspective, by presenting the story and insinuate insights of the author including, the ideas of love, patriotism, and international relationship. The result of the study, the researcher found the common characteristics of the four literature emphasise on the philosophy of love, patriotism, unity among the people in the nation, and creating good international relationships.
