Quality of Life of Transgender Adolescents in Suphanburi

Abstract
This research aimed to study the quality of life of transgender adolescents living in Suphanburi. The samples in this study were 250 teenagers at the age between 13 and 19. Questionnaires were used as the major tools for collecting data, which was conducted from October 2016 to September 2017, and the obtained data were statistically analyzed for frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results showed that 64% of the respondents were male and 36% were female with the average age of 15.5 years. Most of them were in junior high schools, and their parents’ marital status was mainly in separation (e.g. working in different provinces) at 36.8%. The overall quality of life of transgender adolescents living Suphanburi was shown to be at a very high level at with an average of 4.21. The results indicated that the transgender adolescents living in Suphanburi had good quality of life. When considering the levels of life quality in 4 different aspects, such as physical health, mental health, social relationships and environment, the results showed that they were at relatively high levels, and this could be assumed that the quality of their lives was at a fairly good level, of which the highest level was in physical health with an average of 4.27 , followed by the environment, mental health, and social relationships at 4.25, 4.18 and 4.12, respectively. This study showed that the transgender adolescents in Suphanburi had acceptably good quality of life; however, Thai society now had different views on transgender adolescents. Therefore, further studies on the life quality of transgender teenagers should be continued for understanding the crucial factors which can be used as guidelines for supporting the good relationships within a family and society in the future.
