The Participation of People in Local Development Planning: A Case Study of Local Administrative Organizations in Bangban District, Phranakorn Si Ayutthaya Province

Abstract

               The purposes of this study were: (1) to study factors affecting people participation in local development planning and (2) to study the people participation management in local development planning of Local Administrative Organizations (LAOs) in Bangban district, Phanakorn Si Ayutthaya Province. The researcher used a mixed-method research design and employed a questionnaire to collect data from 395 samples. The samples were selected by Stratified Random Sampling Technique (SRS). An in-depth interview was used to collect qualitative data from  the policy and planning officers in LAOs.The results of the study showed that there were 3 factors affecting people participation in local development planning. They were the understanding in local development planning which was in a moderate level, information perception of the people in the moderate level, and being the good citizen which was in the high level. The 3 factors caused the people participation in local development planning with the significant difference .01  The qualitative data highlighted the people participation in local development planning approaches which included: (1) rearranging the meeting time after the office hours, (2) supporting the people suggestion with authenticity, (3) conducting people public relation, (4) arranging the public service with a meeting, (5) presenting local effective outcome ahead of the meeting, (6) organizing the collaborative village meeting, and (7) using the questionnaires.
