Mo Bae Cheow: Hmong hilltTribe of Ban Toub Kho, Dan Sai District in Loei Province

Abstract

This academic article presented a tradition of eating new rice (Mo Bae Cheow) for Hmong hill tribe, Ban Toub Kho, Dan Sai district in Loei province. The objective was to study the tradition of eating new rice for Hmong hill tribe, Ban Toub Kho, Dan Sai district in Loei province. The data collection was the formal interview and informal interview with local experts or local philosopher. The  data was analyzed by various documents and content analysis with descriptive analytics.            The results of the study found Hmong hill tribe, Ban Toub Kho had a process for preserving a tradition of eating new rice (Mo Bae Cheow).There were 3 steps including 1) the process of making new rice; 2) the process of eating new rice; and 3) the guidelines for preserving a tradition of eating new rice. Consequently, the tradition of eating new rice, an ancient culture for Hmong hill tribe in the village, should be gradually preserved and carried on this tradition.
