This article aims to propose an instructional approach for developing critical reading skills among business students through book review activities in a leadership course. Students were assigned to read self-development or leadership-related books and present their critical analysis through online platforms. The activity fostered students’ analytical thinking, information evaluation, effective communication, and ability to connect knowledge with personal contexts. This assignment also enhanced their reading motivation, self-reflection, and essential leadership qualities for the 21st century, including empathy, lifelong learning, and openness to diverse perspectives. This approach demonstrates a practical integration
of academic skill development with life skill enhancement in higher education
