A STUDY OF THE PROBLEMS IN STUDENTS’ ABSENTEEISM IN THE LANGUAGE LABORATORY, SRIPATUM UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the reasons of students’ class absence at Language Laboratory ,Sripatum University, Bangkok. Semester 2/2552. All 171 students were served as the population and as the sample by using a purposive sampling method. Two sets of questionnaires 1. For 171 students who are the class absence and 2. For 42 students always are the class absence and sometimes are the class absence. Data were analyzed through uses of frequency and percentage.

It was found that the reasons of class absence, which were divided into main four aspects. The details of those reasons were 1. the students’ personal matters; students’ peer were at risk of drug abuse, 2. financial; students have no fund for study, 3. Language Laboratory’s regulations were too strict or Lab. assistances were too strict, and 4. equipment and program; some broken computers or computers were not enough for students and students did not like the program. In conclusions, the guidelines for solving students’ class absence problems in four aspects were 1. University should have project of impact of students’ class absence, 2. University should cooperate students’ parents for solving class problems, 3. University has “The How to operate the Language Laboratory Regulations Project” they should do the regulations in the same way, 4. University should prepare the equipment completely.
