Reading and Book Review: A Learning Tool for 21st-Century Skills

The article entitled “Reading and Book Reviewing: A Learning Tool for Developing 21st-Century Skills” aims to propose an integrated conceptual framework that connects “reading” and “book reviewing” as a deep learning process for higher education . This article were 1) an introduction outlining the changing educational and 21st-century skills 2) theoretical on reading about surface reading and deep reading, as well as the role of reading engagement 3) the definition, components, and procedures of book reviewing, key ideas, critical analysis, and engaging in reflective thinking 4) the linkage between book review and 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, information literacy, and self-directed learning; and 5) pedagogical strategies, assessment criteria, limitations, and developmental recommendations. This article include case of classroom for the tools for skills improvement with third-year undergraduate students in the Information and Library Science program at Thaksin University, integrating the Generative AI in this activity . Self-assessment results showed the students perceived book reviewing as highly beneficial to the learning and teaching of course 0106234 at the highest level, and as high beneficial to the development of 21st-century skills at a high level overall.
