Development of Practical Training Model on Natural Dyeing Processes Suitable for the Sustainable Context of Thai Phuan Community

Abstract

     This research aimed to: 1. examine the context, problems, needs, and readiness for developing a practical training model on natural dyeing processes that is suitable for the sustainable context of the Thai Phuan community; and 2. develop a practical training model on natural dyeing processes that is suitable for the sustainable context of the Thai Phuan community. The sample group consisted of 40 members of the Thai Phuan Weaving Cooperative in Ban Mai, Ko Wai Subdistrict, Pak Phli District, Nakhon Nayok Province by purposive sampling and the participants voluntarily joined the research project. The research tools were questionnaire, semi-structure interview form, focus group discussion record, and suitability and possibility assessment form. Data were analyzed using mean and content analysis. 

     The research findings revealed that: 1. the overall context, problems, needs, and readiness for developing a practical training model on natural dyeing processes suitable for the context of the Thai Phuan community were at a high level; and 2. the developed practical training model on natural dyeing processes suitable for the sustainable context of the Thai Phuan community consisted of six steps: 1) plan and prepare, 2) explore and analyze, 3) activity design, 4) implement and practice with a focus on community participation, 5) coach and monitor, 6) assess and reflect. The developed model is based on the principle of “understand-access-develop” that composed of 6 key components: 1) understanding the context of the Thai Phuan community, 2) designing appropriate activities, 3) engaging the Thai Phuan community, 4) building the identity of the Thai Phuan community, 5) continuous evaluation and development, and 6) creating a sustainable learning community. Based on the results of the suitability and feasibility assessment of the developed practical training model, which were rated at a high and very high level, it can be used to implement with the Thai Phuan community. The findings contribute to the development of learning spaces that improve natural dyeing knowledge and skills, leading to the potential expansion of product development in the Thai Phuan community.
