Abstract

This article analyzes the guideline for acquisition of English language as a second language for children in Early Childhood via the Montessori Method. It demonstrates the information in 3 main themes: (1) the enhancement of the mother tongue and acquisition of foreign language as second language according to the concept of Dr. Maria Montessori, (2) the policy of enhancing English as a second language for children in the kindergarten level in Thailand with the background of educational management in the kindergarten level of La-Or Utis Demonstration School which is the first Thai state’s kindergarten and the prototype of the implementation of Dr. Maria Montessori’s method in the Thai context, (3) the last part of this article will present the model for developing English as a second language for children through the principles and methodology of the children’s self-language learning advanced from Dr. Maria Montessori’s concept. Overall, the application of the Montessori Method proves to be an effective model for improving English as a second language in Early Childhood Education within the Thai context. This approach specifically emphasizes the development of both spoken and written language skills.
