Abstract

At present, the training mode of undergraduate Chinese teachers in Thailand is to train five-year undergraduate Chinese teachers in Thai universities. This has been characterized by various training modes, practical training content, and wide training range. However, there were many shortcomings in the five-year training of Thai native Chinese teachers. In order to better solve the practical problems of Thai undergraduate Chinese teachers, it would be necessary to understand and master the needs of different learners for the training of Chinese teachers. Therefore, through the investigation of five-year undergraduate students and graduates, 11 universities with an “undergraduate Chinese teacher specialty”, including five comprehensive universities; such as, Oriental University, Empress Dowager University, Lankangheng University, Kongjing University and Art University, and students from Chiang Mai Royal Normal University, Chiang Rai Royal Normal University, Rachanakarin Royal Normal University, Zhuangjiasheng Royal Normal University, Ganpengbi Royal Normal University, and Zhengda School of Management issued the “Undergraduate Chinese Teacher Specialty of a Thai University”. This paper collected the basic information of the respondents majoring as Chinese teachers, learners’ Chinese background and situation, and the specific situation of the Thai university training, as well as focused on the investigation and analysis of students’ Chinese level before and after training, and Chinese learning and methods during training. It was found that in the universities, they only learned basic Chinese knowledge and teacher theory, and almost had no Chinese teaching skills. However, learning the teaching method of second language teaching was very important for Chinese teachers, and the successful application of the teaching method could make the classroom at least half successful.
Therefore, in view of the existing problems, this paper put forward some countermeasures and suggestions. Consequently, it is hoped that this study could provide a reference for the training of Chinese teachers for five-year undergraduate students in Thailand and the related research of Chinese teaching in Thailand, evaluate the training measures in time effectively, and improve the training effect.
