THE CONSUMPTION DEMAND AND DEPENDENCE OF URBAN RESIDENTS’ HOUSEKEEPING SERVICES—AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF CHANGSHA CITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The utilization of housekeeping services in cities in China is showing an increasing trend. The employment of housekeeping services among urban residents has evolved from single consumption to diversified consumption. Thus, the original housekeeping service system cannot meet the needs of the expanding housekeeping service market. This paper discusses the development path for building a good employer-employee relationship by analyzing the influencing factors of consumers’ sense of housekeeping dependence and housekeeping identity. The multiple attributes of housekeeping service consumption determine the diversity of the research perspective of housekeeping service consumption. The theoretical model of housekeeping service dependence was constructed from the perspectives of the psychological contract theory and psychological account theory. Urban consumers in Changsha were selected to investigate the demand and dependence on housekeeping services. The hypothesis of the model was tested by using the structural equation model. The results showed that the psychological contract had a significant effect on the psychological account and dependence on housekeeping services, while the psychological account had a significant effect on the dependence on housekeeping services; the mediating effect of the psychological account was established. This study not only expands the application of the dependence theory in the field of housekeeping services but also verifies the relationship between psychological contract, psychological account and housekeeping service dependence. Research concerning consumption demand and dependence on housekeeping services among urban residents is conducive to the rational use of housekeeping service resources by building a good boss-employee relationship, improving the quality of housekeeping service, and standardizing as well as socializing housekeeping services.
