Economic, Social, and Cultural Attributes for Building Investment Opportunity and Stability of ‘ Agricultural Investment and Agricultural Industry of Thai Investors in Champasak, Lao P.D.R.

Economy, society, and culture changing according to international trading and investment is affecting the role of Thailand as a hub of regional ASEAN. This research aims to (1) survey Laotian stakeholders’ perspectives for categorizing foreign investment demands on agriculture and agricultural industry in Champasak, Lao PDR and (2) study economic, social, and cultural attributes which influence investment opportunities and the stability of trade and investment in agriculture and the agricultural industry of the Thai investors in Champasak, Lao PDR. The sampling includes a total of 194 entrepreneurs, government officers, farmers who produce under farming contracts in Champasak, Thai officers, and Thai investors under the implementation of the 11th contract farming on agriculture and 7th business matching between Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand and Chapasak, Lao in 2015. The sampling method is purposive sampling. Data was collected by using questionnaires and semi-structure interview forms. The data was processed by descriptive statistics, correlation, multiple regression, and equations for forecasting. The results reveal that (1) the stakeholders in Champasak show that the most-wanted foreign investors to invest in agriculture and agricultural industry are the Thai, and their second preferred investors are Chinese and Vietnamese. (2) The economic attributes (employment, job training), social attributes (Sister-City, social responsibility), and cultural attributes (trading regulation, infrastructure) are forecasting variables are the most useful in predicting investment opportunity and stability.
