Legal Measures to Control the Taxi Booking Service Provider through the Mobile Application: Uber Case Study

The objective of this research is to study laws, regulations and practices relating to taxi operations in Thailand, comparing with Australia (Victoria State) and Singapore, which mainly focuses on legal measures for controlling taxi operations. In addition, the researcher also studies on legal measures for controlling taxi booking service provider through mobile application in order to analyze legal problems occurred with the taxi booking service via mobile application of Uber. The results of the study shows that Thai legal measures applied to taxi operations are not suitable, the penalty is not appropriate as well as the lack of penalty in some cases, which lead to the lacking of safety concerns of the operators and drivers. Also, the lack expert and IT specialists for developing taxi services application in public sector. Therefore, the researcher expects that the results as well as suggestions of this study would be taken into account to amend of laws effectively for the safety of the passengers of taxi services in Thailand.
