การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงผสมผสานวิธีมีวัตถุประสงค์ 1. เพื่อศึกษาสภาพปัจจุบันและสภาพอันพึงประสงค์ 2. เพื่อวิเคราะห์สภาพแวดล้อมภายนอกและภายใน 3. เพื่อกำหนดกลยุทธ์การบริหารโรงเรียนขนาดใหญ่เชิงสมดุล ประชากรผู้ให้ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ผู้บริหารและครูโรงเรียนขนาดใหญ่สำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาประถมศึกษา ปทุมธานี จำนวน 130 คน ตัวอย่างผู้ให้ข้อมูลจำนวน 97 คน (Krejcie & Morgan 1970, pp. 607-610) เลือกตัวอย่างตามเกณฑ์คุณสมบัติ ได้แก่ ผู้บริหารและครูโรงเรียนขนาดใหญ่ ผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญ ได้แก่ ผู้บริหารหรือครู จำนวน 26 คน เครื่องมือวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ คือ แบบสอบถามมาตราส่วนวัด 5 ระดับ ค่าความตรงอยู่ระหว่าง 0.67-1.00 ค่าความเชื่อมั่นเท่ากับ 0.97 เครื่องมือวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ คือ แบบบันทึกการประชุมเชิงปฏิบัติการและTOWS MATRIX การรวบรวมข้อมูลเก็บด้วยตนเอง การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเชิงปริมาณใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนา ได้แก่ ค่าความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ค่าส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน ค่า PNI modified การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพ คือ การวิเคราะห์เชิงเนื้อหา ผลการวิจัย พบว่า 1. 4.49 และ 4.67 อยู่ในระดับมากและมากที่สุดตามลำดับ 2. การวิเคราะห์สภาพแวดล้อมภายนอกและภายใน เป็นโอกาส (Opportunity) และ เป็นจุดแข็ง (Strength) ตามลำดับ ทิศทางของกลยุทธ์ อยู่ในตำแหน่งดาวรุ่ง (Star) สามารถกำหนดเชิงรุก ขยายและพัฒนา 3. กลยุทธ์การบริหารเชิงสมดุลของโรงเรียนขนาดใหญ่ มี 4 กลยุทธ์หลัก 1) กลยุทธ์สร้างผลสัมฤทธิ์ 2) กลยุทธ์พัฒนาครูให้มีทักษะสูง 3) กลยุทธ์การระดมทุนและทรัพยากรเพื่อการศึกษา 4) กลยุทธ์พัฒนาการบริหารจัดการที่ดี และกลยุทธ์ย่อย 24 กลยุทธ์เห็นควรนำผลวิจัยไปใช้กับโรงเรียนขนาดใหญ่ การวิจัยครั้งต่อไปควรทำเรื่องการประเมินผลกลยุทธ์ตามตัวชี้วัด
