The Role of Yala Islamic University in the Islamization of Education

Abstract

This paper aims at introducing the idea on the role of Yala Islamic University in the Islamization of Education. The university has played vital roles in providing integrated Islamic education. This article analyses the role of the university in the aspects : philosophy of the university ; curriculum development;  staff development; preparation of textbooks and other learning resources; research and development; and community service. It suggests guidelines for the university in developing its role in managing the Islamization process in a more comprehensive context and widespread into lower educational institutions and Muslim society at large, that it emphazied on the following aspects: 1. there should have educational and training programmes for producing academic staff with a high level of ideological and moral commitment, 2. curriculum development, there should be the preparation of Islamically oriented curriculum guides for all disciplines and all levels, and also provide guidance to the lecturers for Islamization of the instructional methods and techniques and the co-curricular activities; 3. developing textbooks and multiplicity of learning resources from an Islamic perspective and also a variety of audio and visual materials developed by using an Islamic approach; 4. there should establish a model Islamic school at elementary the secondary levels where some of Islamically-based ideas and practices; 5.research department should play a vital role in evaluating the progress of the efforts at Islamization of education within the university; 6.Community service should be emphasized on providing comprehensive Islamic education.
