Abstract
The Application of Geographic Information Systems for the Selection of Para Rubber Production in Khao Chaison, Phatthalung
The objective of the study was to apply GIS for site selection of suitable production areas for growing rubber at Khao Chaison, Phatthalung. Seven factors relating to rubber production were used in the selection process. These included soil characteristics, drainage, acidity - alkalinity of the soil, the slope of the area, land use, average annual rainfall and average annual temperature. The study found that the area of 143,211.58 rai (83.04 percent) at Khao Chaison were suitable for growing para-rubber, followed by 23,855.51 rai (13.84 percent) considered moderately suitable. Finally, only 5,385.72 rai (3.12 percent) were less suitable.
