Participatory Action Research for the development and technology transfer in science toward the standardization of community product : The case study of the community business group in Chachoengsao Province.

This research aims to 1) study the circumstances, potential and the results of community-based management and promotion in the community product development through the participatory action research, 2) recommend policy at provincial executive level regarding the management and promotion of the community product standard, and 3) guide for the development of socially-engaged scholarship which can transfer lesson learned and experience for the community enterprise groups in Chachoengsao province.

The results of the study indicated that the capability of the product development group of “Kanom Piek” community business group has resided in their cooperation on operation, sacrificing time, determination in product development toward the community product standard. On the product development format, it revealed that in order to meet the standard of product development, the group members must have knowledge and understand and the importance of community product standard as the main factors and must have the suitable process of product selection through the participation and acceptance of group members, Also, the product development must be in compliance with the standard by the inspection in every steps of product development. Moreover, the results showed that the economic, and social factors are encouraging factors for community enterprises; while the technological and ecological factors are barriers to community enterprises. The problems and threats to community enterprises are marketing, finances and accounting, production, information management systems, product design, and the cost of production. We found that the state agencies played an important role in the development of and the support for community enterprises in various aspects i.e. knowledge provider, management skill improvement, marketing support, and in issuing the supporting regulations for community enterprises.
