Food Culture in the Tradition of the Tenth Month (Sart Day) to the Implication Process Design of Souvenir Product Design

This research aims to 1) to study the conceptual implication model and the story of food’s
culture in the tradition of the tenth month (Sart Day) in the South of Thailand at Songkhla Lake
watershed area. 2) To create a product prototype souvenirs from forms, concepts, implications and
wisdom of food culture in the tradition of the tenth month (Sart Day) .The researcher had the
methods’ study and create experimental tools for the creation of concepts in the design as follows
1) Review the concepts, implications and wisdom of food in the tradition in the tradition of the
tenth month (Sart Day) by survey. 2) The questionnaire on the understanding of the traditions in
the tradition in the tradition of the tenth month (Sart Day) and souvenir products from consumer
groups and the entrepreneurs group of souvenir products. 3) Community interviews and local
scholars on concepts, implications, meanings and wisdom related to food culture in the tradition
in the tradition of the tenth month (Sart Day). That led to the process of conceptualizing the design
by searching for identity and decipher Implications of Food Culture in the tradition of the tenth
month (Sart Day) to summarize the concept of designing souvenir products that can communicate
the food culture in the tradition of the tenth month (Sart Day) by taking into account the importance
and potential, capabilities and material limitations of the community enterprise group. In summary,
the needs and directions for designing souvenir products for tourism from a questionnaire of a
sample of 100 people. It was found that the sample group had the highest demand for souvenir
products in the top 3, namely personal items. have the highest average of 4.70, collectibles have
an average of 4.34 and decorations have an average of 4.46 respectively. The design is combined
with the use of main materials and wisdom found in the area, including vernacular materials. (Palm
palm fiber) Craftsmanship wisdom (woodwork). Transferring culture through patterns on batik fabric
and the analysis of the potential of the community enterprise group, namely, the Node Thing
Community Enterprise, Suan Petch Plai Na Mushroom House Community Enterprise and the
community enterprise of the Garment Batik Group.
