Improving Pedestrian Illumination Level: Guidelines for the Universal Lighting Design of the Khon Kaen Provincial Government Center

Abstract

This study explores the importance of universal lighting levels for accessible public areas,
particularly for elderly individuals who rely on visual perception or lip-reading for hearing impairment.
It provides guidelines for improving lighting conditions in public areas in the Khon Kaen Provincial
Government Center to enhance safety, reduce accidents, and promote self-reliance. Conducted by
surveying places, collecting data, and documenting findings in areas where the universal standard
illumination level in both national and international legislation is applicable. The study identifies
seven areas needing improvement, including the wheelchair ramp, bus stop, Khon Kaen City Hall
entrance-exit gate, Public Park entrance gate, pedestrian pathway, road crossing path, and vehicle
road. The findings are used to simulate a lighting and environmental model with the DIALux software
to provide suggestive designs for enhancing illumination.
