THE STUDY OF DEVELOPMENT OF MONUMENTALITY IN ARCHITECTURE

Abstract

       Monuments have long played a crucial role in shaping the cultural, social, and political landscapes of societies worldwide. These artistic and sculptural creations serve as tangible representations of collective memory, power and identity. They embody humanity's intention to create and develop art, sculpture and architecture as legacies that symbolize greatness and civilization, evolving according to cultural, historical, religious and political contexts. This evolution influences remarkable and memorable design approaches that are difficult to imitate.

      This study aims to investigate "Monumentality in Architecture" focusing on the characteristics of monuments used as design tools. By examining architectural transformations from prehistoric times to the postmodern, this research highlights the shifting meanings of monumentality. The study employs primary and secondary data collection, literature reviews and architectural analysis in historical contexts to synthesize and present descriptive findings. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the continuous dialogue between the physicality and meaning of monumentality within the historical and cultural contexts of societies. It aims to examine and predict changes in the design of monumental architecture in the modern era. This study demonstrates the adaptation, diversity and expression of contemporary life. The findings emphasize the quality and influence of this type of architecture on social ideals and goals, that affects the change of characteristic and design tools, which is beneficial for both government and private sectors in recognizing the importance of substantial investment in future architectural design.
