The Buddha’s footprints besides the 5 sacred Buddha’s footprints in Thai Art

Abstract
Although the faith in the Buddha’s footprints appeared in the Dvaravati period, the oldest murals that tell the story about the Buddha’s footprints were found in Ayutthaya period. There are 2 types of Buddha’s footprints in Thai mural: the Buddha’s footprints that was mentioned in Buddhist text and the Buddha’s footprints on real geography. Only the important or sacred Buddha’s footprints would be chosen and most of them are 5 sacred Buddha’s footprints which were firstly mentioned in the text from Late Ayutthaya period.
However, in Thai art, there are some Buddha’s footprints that were chosen other than these 5 sacred Buddha’s footprints, too. One of them is a Buddha’s footprint that was mentioned in Buddhist text which is from Mount Saccabanda in the version that didn’t became the part of the sacred Buddha’s footprint from Wat Phra Phutthabat, Saraburi Province. Another 3 Buddha’s footprints that came from the Buddha’s footprints on real geography: Kaew Khao Buddha’s footprint, Tanintharyi Buddha’s footprint and Usiratukkha Buddha’s footprint.
