Abstract
“Product and Service Design For Tai Yuan Jok Local Craft Community, Ratchaburi Province in extending onto Interior and Home Decoration Product Line With An Innovation of Fabric Molding and Eco-Innovative Textile” is a project that brings valuable local handicrafts together with design innovations within industrial systems to open a new market target. It also concerns on the implementation of environmental management systems, including the introduction of service design to help manage resources and to create maximum value out of them. The research process follows the pattern of ethnographic studies, which is one of the methods in the field of anthropology. There were also the use of guidelines for the implementation of the design thinking process, collecting data from observation in the area, conducting in-depth interviews and doing workshop activities with those who involved, which consists of a group of skilled villagers, group leader, tourists, professors, experts and designers in order to find ways to develop new designs. The activities that have been carried out within this research can lead to the achievement of the project objectives, which are 1) to study and apply some innovative technology and creative ideas onto the process of product design; using new techniques on local fabric that can lead to a further development of local products and new target group expansion; 2) To study and develop the production within the concept of environmental friendly, creating safe raw materials, leading to the development of products that can reserve local culture value while creating new and interesting styles of the local products; supervise local craft people with the potential business management system by using service design concept; and 3) to focus on knowledge exchanging, stimulating self-improvement on the local craftsmen. The local craftsmen were involved within every process; presenting their own opinions which can help providing a strong foundation to them for more sustainable development projects in the future. For more future developments, it can be achieved by applying the working process from this research project on various subject matters, such as, tools, materials, production methods , and including product distribution in different forms and medias. There can be more on collaborative activities with designers, artists, design students and experts in related fields, in order to create an exchange of knowledge with each other, which can result in the more development projects of local handicraft communities.
