Abstract

Reading literacy is imperative for global citizenship in the 21st century learning environment as it contributes to self-improvement and success in life. Unfortunately, Thai EFL students still struggle with English reading difficulties. This academic article aims to suggest research-based reading instruction starting from text selection for teaching reading, stages of intensive English reading lessons including pre, while, and post reading activities. During each stage, struggling readers are equipped with a wide array of effective reading strategies along with metacognitive awareness which helps them monitor their comprehension and actively engage with English reading passage. Consequently, struggling readers will turn into strategic problem-solvers when they encounter reading difficulties.
