Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the characteristics of research methodology in the research aiming at development of English listening and speaking skills of students, to study the teaching methods and analyze the process of creating and developing such lesson plans in order to solve problems of English listening and speaking skills of students and to analyze the process of creating and finding the validity and reliability of research instruments in the research aiming at development of English listening and speaking skills of students. The research population were the 68 dissertation, in the form of full documents aiming at the development of English listening and speaking skills of students, searched from the online database (TDC) of the Office of the Higher Education Commission. Retrieved on September 8, 2022, the search keyword used was “Development of students' English listening and speaking skills”. The results of the research found that there has been continuous research production every year from 2007 - 2022, but there is a trend of decreasing. From the total population, most of them use language teaching methods for communication or communicative Language Teaching, which measures English listening and speaking skills together. There is an almost complete process of creating teaching methods, except for testing the teaching methods with a sample group that has similar characteristics to the sample group. In solving real problems, most of the methods used are taught by researchers, and it is not popular to follow up after using the teaching method. There are 4 types of research instrument used in the population. The numbers found in descending order are as follows: tests, questionnaires, observation forms and interview form. The process of creating research instruments, It was found that the creation of observation forms was created according to all principles of research instrument construction. As for the remaining research instruments, there are still two important steps missing: the step of testing the research instruments with samples that have similar characteristics to the samples in the research and steps for analyzing trial results. Finding quality includes research instruments for finding validity and finding objectivity is complete, with the accuracy of all research instruments being content validity only.
