A Development of the Cyberbullying Screening Scale for Secondary School Students

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop a cyberbullying screening scale for secondary school students and to derive normative criteria tailored for secondary school students. The sample group used to create the cyberbullying screening framework consists of students who are currently studying in secondary school, registered during the first semester of the 2023. These students are enrolled in schools associated with the Office of the Basic Education Commission across four regions which are Northern, Northeastern, Central, and Southern of Thailand. Data was collected from a total of 2,126 participants using a Multistage Random Sampling method. The instrument was a cyberbullying screening questionnaire designed for secondary school students, comprising a total of 60 questions. Data analysis procedures involve an evaluation of reliability, Discrimination index (r), and the Norms. The research findings indicate the cyberbullying screening questionnaire for secondary school students the reliability data with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.95 which classify into 3 group of results, firstly, the group of bullies’ questionnaire which comprises of 20 questions has the reliability data with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient 0.81 and the discriminative index (r) of individual question falls within the range of 0.29 to 0.53, and the norms for the screening are scored within the range of 20 to 55. The percentile positions are from 50.52 to 100.00 range, with T-scores ranging from 48.62 to 70.12. Secondly the group of victims’ questionnaires which comprises of 20 questions has the reliability data with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.90 and the discriminative index (r) of individual question falls within the range of 0.44 – 0.65, and the norms for the screening are scored within the range of 20 to 64. The percentile positions are from 67.17 to 100.00 range, with T-scores ranging from 49.05 to 74.40. Lastly, the questionnaire of the group of cyberbullying bystanders has a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.97 and the discriminative index (r) is within the range of 0.72 – 0.85, and the norms for the screening are scored within the range of 20 to 80. The percentile positions are from 47.13 to 100.00 range, with T-scores ranging from 49.50 to 52.95. which are in accordance with the set standard.
