The Effects of Group Counseling Based on Schema Therapy Approach on Perfectionism and Mental Health Problems in University Students
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to examine the effects of a group counseling program based on the schema therapy approach on perfectionism and mental health problems in university students. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using a randomized pretest-posttest control group method. There were 16 participants, with 7 randomly assigned to the experimental group and 9 to the control group. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was conducted to compare perfectionism scores as the primary outcome and mental health problems as the secondary outcome. The findings demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in posttest scores for perfectionism and mental health problems in the experimental group compared to pretest scores. Additionally, the experimental group’s post-test scores for perfectionism and mental health problems were statistically significantly lower than those of the control group. These results support the effectiveness of the group counseling program based on the schema therapy approach in reducing perfectionism and mental health problems among university students.
