The P.S.R.S Model: A Framework for A Holistic Approach to Working and Solving Problems in Ancient Manuscript

Abstract

This article draws on knowledge from the research on “A Development of an Information Technology Platform for the Preservation and Studies of Manuscripts” i.e., the P.S.R.S. Model, to present a working approach and address the issues of ancient documents, a crucial primary source of information that records the wisdom of our ancestors. These documents are increasingly lost due to both natural disasters and human intervention.

The P.S.R.S. Model consists of four components: 1) P = Manuscript Preservation; 2) S = Integrated Studies; 3) R = Scholarly Research; 4) S = Sustainability Network; and 3 operational levels: 1) L = Local Implementation. Local Applications 2) N = National and Policy Integration 3) G = Global Network

The IT system developed to support the P.S.R.S. Model has three features: 1) Supports all operating standards 2) Operates on Web 2.0 technology 3) Supports application interface systems. It consists of four components: 1) Server, 2) Database, 3) Application Interface, and 4) Application. It provides four functions: 1) Content Entry, 2) Access to Original Data, 3) Text Data Access, and 4) Programmatic Data Access.

The study found that the P.S.R.S. Model can be effectively applied to solve problems related to ancient documents in a holistic manner. The P.S.R.S. Model can be applied to ancient documents in four areas: 1. Conservation, 2. Education, 3. Research, and 4. Sustainability. It also provides a comprehensive solution for ancient document issues. It is necessary to solve the problem at all three levels: 1. Operational level 2. Policy level 3. Network level.
