The Communication for War of Position in the Social Environmental Movement of the Coal Powerplant at Krabi Province Project

Abstract

This research  has objective to study communication for “War of Position” of supporter and objector in social movement about the coal powerplant at Krabi province project by using documentary research in 3 periods 1) August 2012 – December 2014 2) January – July 2015 3) December 2016 – March 2017. The researcher use 3 sources of information 1) documents such as national media, specialized media 2) electronic media such as website, Facebook 3) activities.

This research studies media use of supporter and objector who are build the group called “Historical Bloc” (Class) to support them. And It makes them to be the winner of each group pass meaning that they built.

The results of this research found that the supporter use the media for war of position as follows 1.activities 2.printed media 3.local media 4.mass media 5.website 6.facebook. Media using has three objectives 1) the receiver supported them 2) changing receiver 3) finding people to support them.

The objector communicate to receiver by Greenpeace website that receiver are interesting in protect the environment and use “Stop Coal Krabi” facebook homepage to communicate with receiver. They use facebook homepage to be a main channel for release their movements, giving the information of damage from coal including live the situation streaming about their movements. Including use to retort the supporter pass this channel.
