The Social Construction of Meaning and Pattern of Work Happiness Management Strategy’s Implementation to Employee of Hotel Business in Thailand

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study (1) the meaning of work happiness management strategy’s implementation of hotel business in Thailand, and (2) the pattern of work happiness strategy’s implementation of hotel business in Thailand. This research applies a qualitative method by conducting a phenomenology research. The data were collected by in-depth interview from 5 executives who is responsible the employee’s work happiness in hotel business from the best practice about happiness organization of Thai Health Promotion Foundation, Aon Hewitt best employers Thailand, and the hotel business where operate the happy workplace in Thailand. The research tools are a semi-structure interview guideline and a non-participant observation form. The results included: (1) the meaning of work happiness management strategy’s implementation of hotel business in Thailand means "Guidelines or methods that come from the organization’s philosophy and policy that has been continuously implemented to create work happiness for employees in the organization. The important step before determining the work happiness management strategy is the self-assessment of the hotel in order to formulate appropriately the work happiness management strategy with the organizational circumstances". And, (2) the pattern of work happiness management strategy’s implementation of hotel business in Thailand is divided into 3 issues as following: (2.1) the components of work happiness management strategies include employee recruitment system, reward system, creating a career advancement, compensation and fringe benefit management, well-being and health care, working flexibility, and employee’s diversity management. (2.2) the organizational characteristics that promote the work happiness management strategy’s implementation include the organic organizational structure, involvement organizational culture, and ethic transformational leadership and (2.3) The results of work happiness management strategy’s implementation is the effectiveness of human resource management includes employee’s participation and dedication, and lower employee’s turnover rate as well as job performance beyond expectation that lead to good business performance
