A Study of the Organizational Health of Private Universities

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to examine the organizational health of private universities, and to propose guidelines to improve the organizational health of private universities. The population of the study was the administrators and staffs in 39 private universities. Using stratified random sampling and simple random sampling, 14 private universities were selected as the samples. The questionnaire based on Hoy and Miskel’s 7 dimensions of the organizational health including; 1) institutional integrity, 2) initiating structure, 3) consideration, 4) principal influence, 5) resource support, 6) morale , and 7) academic emphasis, was used for data collection. The data was then analyzed by ways of percentage, mean, standard deviation and content analysis.
The findings of this study revealed that; 1) the overall average score in the 7 dimensions of the organizational health of private universities was at the level of above average in nearly every dimension except the first dimension, institutional integrity which the average score was at the level of lower than average, 2) the overall average score in the 7 dimensions of the organizational health of 14 private universities was at the level of above average, and 5 private universities (1 large , 3 medium , and 1 small ) were at the good level, and 3) 2 private universities (1 large, and 1 medium) had the overall average score of the organizational health at the level of a little below average and much below average respectively.
