A Knowledge Base Development System of Instructional Documents on Education Technology and Communications

Abstract

The objectives of this research were as follows: (1) to construct a knowledge base development system of instructional documents on educational technology and communications; and (2) to evaluate quality of the developed knowledge base development system.

This research was a research and development study. Its research process comprised the following steps: Step 1 was the analysis and synthesis of concepts, principles and theories related to knowledge base on educational technology and communications, and related to instructional documents; Step 2 was the development of conceptual framework of the knowledge base development system of instructional documents on educational technology and communications; Step 3 was the interviews of seven experts to acquire their opinions concerning the developed conceptual framework; the employed research instrument was an interview form; Step 4 was the drafting of the knowledge base development system of instructional documents on educational technology and communications; Step 5 was the submission of the drafted knowledge base development system to five experts for quality verification; the employed research instrument was a quality assessment form, the data were analyzed using content analysis, mean, and standard deviation; and Step 6 was the improvement of the first draft to obtain the complete system. .

Research results were that (1) the developed knowledge base development system of instructional documents on educational technology and communications was composed of the following components: the input component comprising the scope of educational technology and communications, and the sub-framework of the scope of educational technology and communications; the process component comprising keywords, main substance, reference sources, knowledge base, and dissemination; and the output component which was the quality assessment; and (2) the steps of the system were the following: the first step was the determination of the scope of educational technology and communications, and the sub-framework of the scope of educational technology and communications; the second step was the analysis of contents of instructional documents; the third step was the writing of keywords or descriptors, main substance, and reference sources of the instructional documents; the fourth step was the determination of channels for knowledge base dissemination; the fifth step was the operation of knowledge base production; and the sixth step was the knowledge base evaluation; and (2) evaluation results of the developed knowledge base development system indicated that quality of the system as a whole was at a good level.
