A Designing Systems on the Use of Media for Integrated Instruction

Abstract

           The objectives of this research were as follows: (1) to develop a designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction; and (2) to evaluate quality of the developed designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction.

            This was a research and development study.  The research process comprised two stages.  Stage 1 was the development of a designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction which covered the following activities: (1) analysis and synthesis of the principles, concepts and theories concerning the system, system organization, and designing the use of media for integrated instruction in order to be the conceptual frame work of the system; (2) assessment of the needs of teachers in schools in Nonthaburi province, the research sample of which consisted of 214 teachers obtained by multi-stage sampling; the employed research instrument was a needs assessment questionnaire; (3) developing the conceptual framework of the draft of the designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction; (4) conducting a focus group discussion for brainstorming opinions of the experts toward the developed conceptual framework of the draft of the designing system; the employed instrument was a focus group discussion form; and (5) developing the draft of the designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction.  Stage 2 was the submitting of the draft of the designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction to the experts for quality evaluation.  The employed research instrument was a quality evaluation form.  After that, the draft of the designing system was improved, based on recommendations of the experts, to obtain the complete version of the designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction.

            Research results were as follows: (1) the developed designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction comprised the following: (1.1) the input factor component consisting of contents, objectives, learners, integrated instruction model, context, and facilities; the process component consisting of the roles and functions of instructional media, types and characteristics of the media, the designing of media, and the uses of media; and the output component which was the evaluation; (1.2) the steps of the designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction, which consisted of the following eight steps: the first step: analysis of contents; the second step: analysis of objectives; the third step: analysis of learners; the fourth step: analysis of the integrated instruction model; the fifth step: analysis of the context and facilities; the sixth step: determination of the media to be used based on the steps of integrated instruction; the seventh step: undertaking the design on the use of media for integrated instruction; and the eighth step: evaluation of the design on the use of media for integrated instruction; and (2) results of the experts’ evaluation of quality of the developed designing system on the use of media for integrated instruction showed that the developed system had very quality, was feasible for implementation, and was useful for integrated instruction.
