Abstract

                This survey research is aimed to 1) study the problem situation of research publication in journals of lecturers and researchers; 2) study the needs of lecturers and researchers to publish their research in journals; and 3) develop guidelines for promoting research publication in journals for the lecturers and researchers at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University. The samples of the research, which are purposive, included 15 administrators, and 205 faculty members and researchers. The instruments in this study used were an interview form and a 5-rating scale questionnaire. The statistics used for analyzing the collected data were percentage, mean and standard deviation.


                The study showed that 72.2 percent of the samples were females, 56.1 percent were over 50 years of age, and 72.2 percent hold Doctoral degree. It also appeared that 68.3 percent of the interviewees graduated in Thailand and 36 percent of them held the position of assistant professor. The analysis of the problem on research publication in journals was at (i.e.,  = 3.21 and S.D. = 1.016) The statistics of each problem here as follow: research article problem showed mean (i.e.,  = 3.27 and S.D. = 1.064) personal problem resulted with mean (i.e.,  = 3.23 and S.D. = 1.012) publishing resources problem came out with mean (i.e.,  = 3.22 and S.D. = 0.903) and financial problem marked mean (i.e.,  = 3.13 and S.D. =  1.086) The analysis showed that the need for the promotion of research publication was at high level. The result stated that the organization should inspire lecturers and researchers to produce  highest quantity and quality work possible, resulting with mean (i.e.,  = 4.22 and S.D. = 0.755) The interviewees agreed that there should be a center that helps promote, support, read and publish the research, showing numbers of mean(i.e.,  = 4.16 and S.D. = 0.928) The statistics concerning the need of English language advisor are mean (i.e.,  = 4.14 and S.D. = 0.805) The research suggested guidelines for promoting research publication in journals thatsystems and mechanisms to enhance research productivity should be developed. It also suggested that the organization should also motivate to pursue higher research productivity by allowing appropriate and equal work for all.
