Problem-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning and Research-Based Learning: An Introduction to How They Work for Offline and Online learning
Main Article Content
Abstract
Problem-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, and Research-Based Learning are instructional methods centered on students. While they share similarities in their instructional processes, they differ in their core focus. Problem-Based Learning centers on addressing specific problems and finding solutions. Project-Based Learning revolves around the creation of projects and the resulting products. In contrast, Research-Based Learning involves the integration of research elements, including research results, processes, and methods, into the learning process. These methodologies collectively enhance critical skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative learning among students. Moreover, all three approaches are well-suited for formative assessment and adaptable for both fully online and blended learning environments. In choosing the appropriate instructional approach, instructors should carefully consider factors such as learning objectives, student characteristics, content relevance, and the prevailing learning context.
