Chainat: Provincial History, Social and Culture Photographical Model

Abstract

Chainat was empirically in short of creative and value added historical, social and cultural photography for the provincial development. So, the aims of this research were: to study and compare historical, social and cultural (HSC) photographs of Chainat in the past and in the present and to study appropriate Chainat’s photographical model for provincial HSC data collection. The study applied in qualitative research. Pictures and related data were collected for the study in 6 historical districts of Chainat. The informants were key informant group with 15 related government office directors and photography local wisdoms, casual informant group with 45 responsive government officers and local photographers and general informant group with 45 school students and photograph users. Data were collected by means of interview, observation, focus group discussion, work shop and analyzed by analytic induction method. The research results showed that: HSC photographs of Chainat in the past were the photographs of ancient community sites, historic sites, artifacts, activities, ritual and ancient community performances. The photographs implied completed that Chainat was an ancient community site in Tawarawdee period, a part of Khom Kindom in Lopburi period, a border town of Sukhothai, a principality town of Ayuthaya, a Burmese frontier boder in Thonburi and Ratanakosin period and Chinat Province after Siam Transliteration in 2475 B.E. until nowadays that was the overlapping civilization of different periods for more than a thousand years and the people respectively inherited their belief of ghost, Hinduism and Buddhism. The photographs of Chainat in the past and in the present day were similar in historical and cultural collected data but different in taking photograph technique, photographs’ value and quality. Both have the same weak point of unclear objectives, low technique, photographs’ value and quality and also lack of good caring, good management. There were also lack of HSC photography value added and creative in photograph taking, and photograph utilizing for the city development. Chainat’s Provincial History, Social and Culture Photographical Model (HSCM), which is appropriate is a semantic model, describing special systematic and suitable methods of photography for provincial HSC data collection. The model composes of 4 goals: adequate photographs, quality photographs, good caring and good management. 3 methods of HSC photography: Taking historical photograph based on historical data, value added and integrated technique; Taking social and cultural photograph based on social and cultural identity, creativity and Good photographs management and usage. The methods will be success by mean of stakeholders’ supporting, photography KM, using modern and appropriate technique and tools and good management mechanism.
