Abstract

This study aims to synthesize the definition, components, and indicators of digital literacy skills for Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) graduate students. The study begins with the review literature for conducting the initial digital literacy framework for focus group and in-depth interview. The key informant consists of 2 groups: 10 distance education lecturers and 12 STOU graduate students. Research instruments divide into 2 parts which are the instruments for focus group (expert history forms, digital literacy documents, focus group question guideline, and focus group record forms) and the instruments for in-depth interview (questionnaires and in-depth interview question guideline). Collected data was extracted to derive the digital literacy definition, components, and indicators for STOU graduate students in 4 steps: transcribing, organizing, summarizing, and synthesizing.

The results revealed that digital literacy (for STOU graduate students) refers to the set of skills which are significant in private living and distance learning including 8 components as followed:  (1) General basis of computer (25 indicators) (2) Risk protection (12 indicators) (3) Software applications (37 indicators) (4) Decency (12 indicators) (5) basic Use of internet (22 indicators) (6) Acquiring information (15 indicators) (7) communication skill (28 indicators) and (8) E-learning skill (14 indicators).
